CERT-MU to reduce the risk of information security incidents

The government will continue to provide a law enforcement response,as well as information and education about mobile threats.

However, providers of mobile services are expected to play their part by providing users with links to law enforcement bodies, support and information.

This was stated by the minister of Information and Communication Technology(ICT), Tassarajen Pillay Chedumbrum, at the opening ceremony of a half-day workshop on Mobile Security at the Ebène Cyber Tower on Thursday.

In his opening address minister said, “All of us, along with the industry, have a responsibility to work together to tackle the issue of mobile security, in light of the central role played by smart phones and mobile devices in our daily life .”

He added, “Between 2009 and 2010, there was a reported increase of 250 per cent in mobile threats worldwide.”

The workshop is part of the sensitisation strategy implemented by the Mauritius National Computer Security Incident Response Team (CERT-MU), operating under the aegis of the National Computer Board (NCB), to reduce the risk of information security incidents.

The main aim of the workshop was to discuss security issues, risks and countermeasures of mobile devices and applications..

Discussions focussed on emerging threats of mobile devices and mobile device security policy and secure mobile transactions.

The chairman of the NCB, S Ramgolam, said that CERT-MU will soon come forward with a strategy for the protection of critical information infrastructure in Mauritius.
