The minister of Business, Enterprise, Cooperatives and Consumer Protection Michael Sik Yuen will launch a booklet and pamphlet on Thursday at Gold Crest hotel, Quatre Bornes.
The publications contain information for cooperative societies and also have plans that can make them more accessible to the public.
The documents offer information on fiscal exemptions, technical support, training, commercial promotion and investment. The booklet also contains detailed information on plans and existing measures to support cooperatives.
Moreover, these also have plans proposed by various ministries and departments such as Ministry of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives, Small and Medium Development Authority, Ministry of Fisheries and the Development Bank of Mauritius (DBM).
The publication of these documents is in line with the government’s vision to encourage and develop the cooperative sector by offering proper financial, fiscal and political support.
The strategy of the concerned ministry is based on autonomy of cooperatives ensuring the economic development of the sector.
After the launch, a workshop regrouping a hundred heads of cooperative societies will be held. The aim is to sensitise participants on measures taken and other benefits offered by the Ministry of Cooperatives.
The ministry is offering several support plans in terms of training, fiscal exemptions, technical support and services such as free auditing.
In fact, a particular cooperative society has been benefitting from exemption of registration fee and stamp duty. Societies whose earning does not exceed Rs 10 million are eligible to free auditing services.
Cooperative societies also benefit from education and training for better management.
