India and Mauritius in talks on Tax Pact again

India and Mauritius have resumed talks on their existing double tax avoidance treaty, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said Tuesday.

"As far as the Mauritius double taxation avoidance agreement is concerned, this is nothing new. It's an old one. For some time talks were suspended, now it has resumed," Mr. Mukherjee told reporters on the sidelines of a conference.

Shares in India's markets fell Monday on concerns that a review of the Indo-Mauritius pact seeks to tax capital gains on investments routed through the island nation.

Mr. Mukherjee also said that a probe by the intelligence bureau has revealed his office wasn't bugged.

His comments were in response to a report published in The Indian Express newspaper Tuesday that said the finance minister, concerned over his office being bugged, had requested the prime minister order a probe into the matter
