The government is planning to proceed with the concept of ‘eco-friendly buildings in order to maximise energy efficiency and promote the use of renewable energy.
The concept of eco-friendly buildings is in line with the ‘Maurice Ile Durable’ project.
It is in this direction that the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, National Development Unit, Land Transport and Shipping is reviewing the Building Act of 1919 to incorporate this concept. Moreover, a Danish group, Danish Energy Management Consultants, in collaboration with the UNDP / GEF and the French Development Agency (AFD), is currently working to prepare the New Building Control Bill as well as the Energy Efficiency Building Regulations and the Code for Energy Efficiency and Compliance Mechanisms.
Various workshops and consultations on the training programmes have been organised by the AFD and the Agence de l’Environnement et de la maitrise de l’Energie (ADEME) of Reunion island. The Ministry of Public Infrastructure is planning to make the Emmanuel Anquetil building, an eco-friendly one.
