Some 508 social housing units in 10 different places will be delivered between late September and the end of the year. With these 508 houses of the National Housing Development Company (NHDC), several families will find a home.
The government had to look for a sum of about Rs 325 million for the construction of these houses, said an officer involved in this project. All houses will be in good condition .
The NHDC is doing repair works at a cost of Rs 280 million across the island despite the fact that it has debts of Rs 92 million.
The NHDC has some 3,300 bad payers. The new houses have been built near educational institutions, health services and shopping centres so that the new owners have access to a number of facilities.
The Ministry of Housing and Lands is working in close collaboration with the Ministry of Social Integration and Economic Empowerment on this project.
Seven sites have been identified for the construction of 1,000 houses for the next two years.
These regions include Montagne Longue, Beau Bois, Pointe aux Piments, Camp Ithier, Gros Cailloux, Sébastopol and Chebel. It will cost the government about Rs 500 million to construct these houses.
