After a lot of hard work and waiting, the Miss Mauritius National Organisation, along with Miss Mauritius 2010, Laetitia Darche, presented the collection that Darche will be wearing during the Miss Universe contest, Brazil.
The garments were presented at Imperial China, Trianon on Thursday. Speaking to the Independent, deputy national director, Vanessa Obeegadoo said, “The idea of designing the national costume with the Paille-en-queue (bird) this year is unique. It has been created by Mauritian designer Samuel Yeung. The outfit needs some finishing touches, so we are working on it.”
In order to create a sense of belonging, Exclusively Bella Donna Shoes have provided Brazilian laser cut shoes to match the national costume.
Regarding the outfits, Darche said, “I am very happy. My favourite garments are the black cocktail dress designed by Indian designer, Priyam Narayan and the greyish silver cocktail dress by Ashiana Fashion. My fashion sense is actually a little sober, but when you enter contests like this, one has to wear bling.”
She added, “I was asked to choose between Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Intercontinental. I chose Miss Universe because I am very fluent in Spanish. I speak the language just like I speak English and French. I have lived in South Spain for 10 years and that’s how I know the language. For the past one year, keeping the title has been hectic, because I had a lot of responsibilities. My most memorable experience was my trip to New Delhi during the Commonwealth Games. It was wonderful,” said Darche.
