The PRB Report Disappointing For Trade Unionists
Unionists expressed their discontent after the publication of the report of the Pay Research Bureau (PRB) Tuesday afternoon.

Iqbal Amiran "officials received nothing"

Iqbal Amiran, Secretary of State Employees Federation, does not hide his disappointment after having read an outline of the report. "It's a catch-up purchasing power that has been done since July 1 until now," he argued. For him, deducting all compensations that officials should have received, they received nothing. He said out that the gap between officials at the bottom of the ladder and senior executives has increased. "Is this a report for petty officials or executives," has he asked.

Rashid Imrith: "A meeting with the government requested the next report"

"We are told that the report costs Rs 4, 6 billion and an increase of 22% is granted. We'll see if the numbers match and if 20% on average equivalent to 4.6%, "said Rashid Imrith, president of the Federation of Trade Unions in the public sector. For him, in 2008, when the PRB had paid Rs 5.2 billion, the amount has not been used in five years. Second, it states that the PRB had two missions, namely the adjustment of wages after the rise of the consumer index and salary review. He believes that the salary revision is not greater than 10%. He requested a meeting with the government to discuss the next report. Finally, he argues that there would be "anomalies" in the report and that it intends to address the government to find solutions to existing problems.

Haniff Peerun: "A restructuring of the Public Service"

Regretting the attitude of the Ministry of Public Service, Haniff Peerun, President of the Mauritius Labour Congress, said the sum of Rs 4.6 billion is insufficient. For him, it is essential to restructure the civil service. He argues that many decisions have been taken but were not implemented in the latest report of PRB. He asked that the Committee for the implementation of these decisions be established to review all the issues raised in the report.

Narendranath Gopee: "There is little change"

To Narendranath Gopee, president of the Federation of Civil Service and Other Unions (FCSOU), the new report PRB is a copy of 2008 with few changes. "The Director of the PRB was led to believe that there is a wage increase of 22%, whereas this is not the case. There are hidden aspects in this report, including the salaries of permanent secretaries. "NIl was disappointed the report because there is little change for officials. "This is a farce for the unions," he said.

Bagooaduth Kallooa: "I am disappointed with the base salary for nurses"

"I am disappointed with the base salary of nurses who rose to Rs 14,000 after five years . It was Rs 12,000 previously, "said Bagooaduth Kalloa, President of the Nursing Association (NA). He finds that 'Repension Allowance' nurses is a positive aspect of the report.

Ashok Subron: "Some salaries have been reduced"

"This report has shown that workers of the Public and semi-public bodies have got zero increase in real terms "said Ashok Subron, President of the General Workers Federation (GWF). "Some salaries have been reduced and there is an overuse of these employees," he argued. He believes that "these are the senior officers who were 'fully compensated, and receive a salary increase, while workers at the bottom gained zero increase".
