It is the Minister of Information Technology and Communication, Tassarajen Chedumbrum Pillay, who launched the new Orange service. It is the 3G + and 4G now available in Rodrigues.
The Minister announced further developments after the contract was awarded Mauritius Telecom to increase the capacity of the satellite bandwidth between Mauritius and Rodrigues, 37 Mbps to 155 Mbps. He added that the project will be completed as planned, at the end of September this year.
The connection to 3G + and 4G will make people Rodrigues access to new value-added services on their mobile phones and, most importantly, enjoy the mobile Internet and can surf at high speed until 14.4 Mbps in the case of 3G +. Mauritius Telecom has built no less than 10 base stations through Rodrigues to ensure good coverage of 3G + and 4G in Rodrigues.
The introduction of 3G + and 4G Rodrigues coincided with the holding of Infotech Rodrigues on 17 and 18 August at the government school Basille Allas Port Mathurin.
