Budget Measures That Come Into Force This Month

According to the schedule of implementation of Budget 2014 outlined several measures come into effect from this month.
  • Creating a Bus Replacement Mechanism to facilitate the renewal of the bus fleet through the purchase of 200 buses lowered floor (semi low-floor buses).
  • A new Housing Empowerment Scheme to enable households earning less than Rs 50,000 to get a housing loan of up to 95% of the project value.
  • Liberalization bunkering that will allow oil companies to import petroleum products for refueling ships.
  • Entry into force of regulations that mandate certain safety equipment on new trucks over 5 tons.
  • Liberalization of the electricity sales.
  • Launch of the National Energy Efficiency Campaign.
  • Creation of an Office for Ocean Affairs and Development.
  • Creating a Mauritius-Africa Fund.
  • Subsidy of 50% of insurance for products exported to African countries.
  • Creating a Fast Track Committee to ensure that the permits for large investment projects are granted quickly.
  • Abolition of bank guarantees for Occupation and Residence Permits to foreigners.
  • Creating a Public-Private Tourism Committee.
  • Encourage transits to the new airport Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam.
  • Reduction of International Private Leased Circuit 16% for Internet access.
  • Disbursement of a fund of Rs 400 million for the stoning cane fields.
  • Budget increase of Enterprise Mauritius promotion Rs 180 million.
  • A basic website for each SME.
  • Rs 70 million SME Factoring Scheme in 2014.
  • Increase the budget for ZEP schools, the amount allocated to spend Rs 440 million.
  • Rs 200,000 to each of the primary and secondary schools to make light work of infrastructure.
  • Delivery of touch pads for students in Form 5.
  • Introduction of HSC Pro.
  • Beginning of the construction of university campus Reduced, White Mountain and Pamplemousses.
  • A fund of Rs 275 million for the Youth Employment Program.
  • Contribution to NPF and NSF will be mandatory for foreign workers, except those in the free zone.
