Varma Case: Former Attorney General Formally Charged with Assault

Yatin Varma will be tried for beating Florent Jeannot. It is the decision of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, is it said in a statement released Wednesday, April 16. A formal accusation of aggression was used against the former Minister of Justice.

Florent Jeannot, the young man who said he was abused by the accused following a road accident in Quatre-Bornes, is itself charged with careless driving. He had also filed a complaint against the father of Yatin Varma, Moonindra. According to the plaintiff, the latter would have imposed several slaps.

However, for lack of evidence, Moonindra Varma will not be prosecuted. It is the same for all persons accused of conspiracy in the context of this case, is Reza Issack, Mauritius Allet Florent Jeannot, Jeannot Mario, Yatin Varma, Kevin and Genevieve Arithoppah Jeannot.

The DPP says no agreement has been reached between the two parties involved, and therefore not subject to prosecution for conspiracy.
