SME: "Too Many Imported Items Flood Our Markets"
The owners of small and medium enterprises complain that "too many" imported articles flooding the local market.

It’s a loss for locally manufactured products. That at least is what told Matinal Friday Amar Deerpalsing, president of the Federation of SMEs. According to him, the government should impose more control over imported products to enable local entrepreneurs to make bargains.

To date, the local market is flooded with shoes, clothes, school text-books and furniture. Local entrepreneurs are discouraged to go into these areas because, they say, "the market is already saturated." "If this continues we are likely to kill creativity mauri-CIENNE in these areas," said Amal Deerpalsing. He added that the government must provide a 'package' of incentives for SMEs. Otherwise, many owners of small and medium enterprises will be forced to rotate also to the import of products at low prices.

Must, according to Amal Deerpalsing, encourage mau Rican companies to engage in areas such as shoes and clothing, among others. If entrepreneurs persist in these areas without any protection, said Amar Deerpalsing, it is certain that many SMEs will soon put the key under the door. It invites the authorities to take the necessary decisions for it's time. In addition, he proposed that the interest rate on borrowing for SMEs should be increased to less than 8%.We need the government, he said, encourages SMEs on the one hand to produce for the local market and also export their products abroad. This will encourage SMEs to save jobs and create new ones. Also, local entrepreneurs are interested in sharing their knowledge with the younger generation. "Mauritius is not Singapore," said Amal Deerpalsing.

"Every year, 30% of students fail the CPE exam. Many people have the skills to become entrepreneurs later. Why not create the ideal environment for the younger generation to come, "said Amar Deerpalsing.
