About 300 expatriates – mostly Chinese, Bangladeshi, Malagasy and Indians – working for Tropic Knits in Floreal refused to work for a second day yesterday.
They said they will not resume work until they obtain satisfaction and that issues they are facing are resolved. The expatriates complained that their salaries for the month of March were lower than expected.
A meeting was held yesterday attended by the president of the Textile Manufacturing and Allied Workers Union, Mr Ali Fayzal Beegun, the director of the textile factory, Mr Jean Baptiste de Speville, and other representatives of the expatriates.
According to Mr Beegun, the employees are asking for salaries ranging from Rs9,000 to Rs10,000.
