Orange Expo Mauritius: 50000 visitors

The closing ceremony of Orange Expo 2011 last night left organisers on Cloud Nine with all expectations and targets surpassed.

Emanuel Andre, Commercial Director of Orange, said yesterday: “We have gone well beyond 50,000 visitors during the three-day exposition. It would not be a surprise if we reach 60,000.”

The Orange Expo, which displayed the latest IT tools, last year attracted 45,900 visitors. Talking about sales, the commercial director explained that this year’s expo sales were unprecedented.

“We have run out of several high-end phones such as the iPhone 4. People realised that phones were not just a phone but with it you could have access to tons of information. With internet everywhere, a phone is just what you will need to get you connected,” he said.

The “Learning Cube”, a huge orange cubic space in the middle of the exhibition centre, attracted thousands of people who wanted to get first-hand experience of a digital classroom.

Digital technology is used in the classroom to improve the learning experience; this type of classroom is already well established in certain developed countries of the world.

All sorts of IT gadgets and phones of all sizes were on display for the visitors who needed little encouragement to dip into their pockets for a purchase.
