In order to obtain a plot of land, around 412 ex-employees of Harel Frères Limited, Belle Vue Milling Co Ltd and Mon Songe Sugar Estate, participated in a drawing ceremony on March 24 at Belle Vue Mauricia.
The ceremony was held for people under the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS II) and Early Retirement Scheme (ERS).
These employees had voluntarily put an end to their contracts in order to benefit from the VRS II or the ERS. They also received a lump sum in accordance to the length of service in their companies. The ceremony was an opportunity for the beneficiaries to meet their colleagues.
Cyril Mayer, the managing director of Harel Frères Group, minister of Agro-Industry and Food security Satish Faugoo and minister of Environment Deva Virahsawmy were present.
The employees were allowed to choose a plot of land in different regions that are owned by their companies. The beneficiaries are now owners of a seven-acre plot in Chemin Ilot (Montagne Longue), Maison Blanche (Pamplemousses), Cottage (Mapou), Bois Mangues (Plaine des Papayes), Morcellement Saint-André, Baichoo (Pointe aux Piments) and in Pont Praslin (Mare d‘Australia).
The targeted sites will be well equipped with services like post office, schools, colleges, police station, village hall and other public infrastructure facilities.
