The Economic and Financial Measures Bill passed the House committee on Tuesday. The bill, which will be read a third time, includes amendments to the measures announced in the 2011 budget such as the Land Productivity and Enhancement Scheme (LPES).
Also presented in Parliament was the setting up of the LPES, which will deal with the optimum utilisation of land resources. The amendments took eight months to be finalised. It includes the Fisheries and Marine Resources Act to provide for a legal framework for the regulation and development of a fish farming industry in respect of fish farming activities that will involve the production of a variety of species.
The Maritime Zones Act was amended to provide for a legal framework for the regulation and operation of a land-based oceanic industry
