The police is looking at the situation very seriously and an investigation is underway to find out the culprit.
On Wednesday, Dharmarage Ajoodhea, 56, a pump attendant at Shell filling station, Pamplemousses reported a case of counterfeit notes. He alleged that the driver of a private car gave him two Rs 100 notes for the purchase of petrol.
He later found that these were fakes. He had recorded the vehicle’s number plate and after analyzing with the National Transport Authority, the plate was also found to be fake.
Officers from Pamplemousses are investigating the matter based on clues available at hand.
On December 8, the Engen filling station also reported a case of counterfeit notes. Wesley Sezaff, a 31-year-old pump attendant at the Vandermesh station had alleged that an unknown driver tendered him a sum of Rs 175 for the purchase of petrol. He later found the hundred and fifty rupee bank notes were counterfeit. The cases are being investigated by the police.
