Land Prescription: Commission of Inquiry strarts

The Commission of Inquiry on prescribing land begins its work on July 2. The public is invited to file their complaints with the Secretary of the Commission, Roger Boodnah before the end of August.

The first session of the Commission of Inquiry on the requirements of land will be held on July 2. The president of that body, Shameem Hamuth-Laulloo, which will be assisted by two assessors, announced Monday, June 18, 2012, through a statement, the commission will listen to the grievances of those who consider themselves victims of land requirements of the day week from 15 hours. The body sits on the ground floor of the New Court House, Port Louis (see photo).

The statement released this Monday, June 18 states that those who wish, whether abroad or in Mauritius to Rodrigues, may file their application in writing for an audience with this instance. Applications should be addressed to Roger Boodnah, secretary of the commission of inquiry to his office in the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court, before the end of August 2012.

The commission's mandate to investigate the system of land acquisition in Mauritius by way of limitation. It will see if the law gave rise to abuses and questionable practices.

The magistrate Shameem Hamuth-Laulloo assessors will Lassémillante lawyer Herve and former magistrate Raj Unnuth. The commission will have the opportunity to make amendments to this legislation to better protect the interests of the general public.
