National Lottery: Government Earn Rs 741 Million

In 2012, revenues from the tax imposed on the National Lottery amounted to Rs 579 M. These revenues will be used to fund various projects in the fields of education, community development, sports, health, arts and culture and the reduction of state debt for the next generation.

In the field of education, the construction of multi-purpose halls and gyms are expected, the extension of 'primary grant' students three years, the creation of nurseries, funding for six homes for children and the promotion of 'School IT Program. In the area of community development, it provides for the creation of new eco-villages, funding 'Water Tank Grant Scheme' and the establishment of condominium corporations for apartments of the National Housing Development Company Ltd blocks. In sports, the State has indicated its intention to build sports complex Triolet and St. Peter, create a sports institute and build a football stadium in the south of the country.

The construction of a geriatric hospital at a cost of Rs 150 million, is in pole position on the list of projects identified by the government. Three other projects are on the agenda in the health sector: the creation of an Institute of Women's Health, the creation of a children's hospital and the launch of an awareness campaign on non-communicable diseases.

In the field of arts and culture, the following projects are planned: (i) construction of a National Art Gallery, National Museum of restoration, rehabilitation of La Tour Koenig, rehabilitation of Indentured Labourers Baracks the launch several plans for the organization of concerts, the launch of a study to establish a virtual museum on the history of Mauritius, the establishment of the Mauritius Symphony Orchestra, promoting Beekrumsing Ramlallah Interpretation Centre and rehabilitation synthetic lawn Anjalay stage. The revenue collected will also be used to absorb certain debts of the state.
