Regional SME Fair, held at regular intervals, is aimed at businesses with an annual turnover not exceeding Rs 50 M. The goal is to increase the visibility of SME products and services while leveraging marketing opportunities for entrepreneurs and increase local production and their contribution to the Mauritian economy. Thus, the fair serves as platform for SMEs to market and sell their products to tourists and the general public, launch new products, create or strengthen partnerships with customers and understand their aspirations and develop network of partnerships with other companies. About 80 SMEs will be present at the fair during which the sectors of food, crafts, woodworking, textile and clothing, jewelery, plants and leather goods will be represented.
SMEs are a key driver of the Mauritian economy. Collectively, they account for about 37% of gross domestic product and employs about 250,000 people. This has become the largest source of employment and performance is important for social and economic development.
However, SMEs face a number of challenges that have a negative impact on costs, productivity and competitiveness.
