Pradeep Roopun, who was denied a nomination in the last legislative elections, was very active in the field, especially in constituency no. 8 (Moka-Quartier-Militaire), where Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth was elected in the first position.
The 60-year-old father of four has worked as a high school teacher and solicitor. Between 1990 and 1996, he worked as a part-time lecturer at the University of Mauritius. He was also a member of the Board of Examiners of the Council of Legal Education.
In the 1995 elections, Pradeep Roopun was the MSM candidate in constituency number 15 (La Caverne/Phoenix). The MSM was defeated by a severe margin (60-0). The PTr-MMM alliance won the legislative elections.
Pradeep Roopun returned to the fray in the 2000 elections. He was elected in constituency number 14 (Savanne/ Black River).
From 2000 to 2004, he held the position of Chief Whip of the government. In 2005, he was appointed Minister of Local Government.
In the 2010 legislative elections, he was elected again. This time under the banner of the PTr-MSM-PMSD alliance in constituency no. 9, (Flacq/Bon Accueil).
In May 2010, Pradeep Roopun was appointed Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.
In the December 2014 general election, he was again elected in constituency number 9. He then assumed the duties of Minister of Social Integration.
In December 2016, he was assigned the portfolio of Arts and Culture. Position he held until the dissolution of Parliament on October 6, 2019.
