The celebrations of the Maha Shivaratree thus ended in the wee hours Tuesday morning. After several days of fasting, prayers and pilgrimage to the sacred lake of Grand Bassin, our fellow Hindu faith have spent all night in their local shivalas for prayers dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Many people, on Monday morning, visited the temples for prayer (Abishek), they poured water brought from Ganga Talao on shivling. However, prayers are not complete without the Chariot Paher Ki Pooja, the great night of Shiva. Thus, after the pilgrimage, members of the Hindu community went to the temples for prayers that night twelve hours, divided into four slices. The prayers began around 6:00 p.m. Monday and ended at six o'clock this morning.
