The Mauritius Examination Syndicate (MES) announced Wednesday, February 6th the list of 500 candidates with the best examination results of the Higher School Certificate (HSC) 2012 vintage. It is from this list that will be selected 24 candidates will receive a scholarship.
The top 45 on this list are, in fact, the winners whose names were announced, Monday, Feb. 4.
Other therein are eligible for a scholarship from the State under two conditions: their academic performance and their social condition.
16 of the 24 grants will go to candidates from families whose monthly income does not exceed Rs 12,000.
Eight other scholarships will be awarded on the basis of results in any industry. However, the monthly income of the family should not exceed Rs 6200 per month. Candidates who are considering studying abroad receive an annual stipend of Rs 300,000, for a maximum of four years.
Those who study in Mauritius will receive a stipend of Rs 96,000 plus tuition fees of up to Rs 150,000 per year. This is the first time that the State allocate scholarships under this formula.
However, candidates whose names do not appear on this list may also apply for a scholarship if they come from families fall under both categories.
Candidates who aspire to get one of the scholarships must register at the Department of Education no later than February 28.
