Two of the suspects are clients of brothers Ashwin and Kevin N. while the third was an illegal bookmaker. They were to be brought to justice in Rodrigues on Monday April 22.
It's Saturday, April 20 after the sixth race police Port Mathurin dismantled the network of illegal bets.
Brothers, Ashwin and Kevin N. inhabitant of Vacoas, were arrested during the operation supervised by Inspector Rajesh Moorghen. They are suspected of organizing bets on horse racing without a license. Their modus operandi: they were heading Rodrigues on the eve of each day horse. Then one of them was traveling in a van to take bets before forwarding the message to his brother based in a hotel in Anse aux Anglais.
The latter then recorded the bets. After a chase, the vehicle was stopped. And after a search, the police found Rs 22,000. The money was seized. The detectives then raided the hotel where the other brother was cased. The sum of Rs 50,000, suspected to be from illegal bets, was also seized. Computing devices and six cell phones were placed under seal. During their interrogation, one of the suspects confessed to operate a business of illegal bets by SMS.
