Maurice Ile Durable: 130 Projects at Rs 6.26 Billion

The government will fund Rs 720 million, while the private sector will contribute Rs 5 billion.

The presentation of this plan is an important step in the government's vision of making Mauritius a sustainable island. Prepared by Mott Macdonald Ltd, a British company, the plan was approved by the Cabinet on June 14 Three hundred six participants Workings Groups worked on programs of activities MID project in June and July 2011.

The plan is initially in five pillars: Energy, Environment, Employment / Economics, Education and Equity (E 5). The 130 projects and initiatives are classified under four priority programs: Energy Conservation and Renewables (Rs 5.1 billion) Cleaner, Greener and Pollution-free Mauritius (Rs 1 billion) Green Economy (Rs 160 million), Ocean Economy (the Funding will be determined later). A budget of Rs 200 million has already been approved by the Ministry of Finance for the 2013 financial year. Of this amount, Rs 118 million will be directed to renewable energy and Rs 82 million to other sectors.

"This is an important step in the vision of the Prime Minister to make Mauritius a sustainable island. Since launching the concept MID, there have been several projects and initiatives (207). This plan will bring more coherence in government action where projects can unite around this national approach, "says the president of the Commission MID, Osman Mahomed. According to him, the Commission is required to ensure that projects are implemented in the country.
