" We frequently receive complaints against private universities ," said Saabir Kasenally . And the officers of the TEC , he indicated , were quick to carry out site inspections to see if these accusations were true. The director of the TEC revealed that "several steps have been taken " by the regulatory body of higher education institutions since the beginning of the year. This is to ensure that the quality of services offered by these private universities meet the standards of the TEC .
There has been talk of the registration procedures of private institutions and accreditation criteria curriculum. Saabhir Kasenally showed that when the university opened its doors, the TEC provides initially a ' provisional accreditation ' valid for one year . " If the institution has committed no fault during the past year, we renew its accreditation for a period of three years," he pointed out . It has a backhand , swept perceptions that cast doubt on the rigor of the TEC when it comes to approving foreign universities in Mauritius.
And in that it is sanctions which the TEC is often used if it finds that some universities are not compliant , supports Saabhir Kasenally have in the past refused to renew certain accreditations.
"And in some cases we have even banned the recruitment of freshmen in some universities ," he said . Other stakeholders , namely Subheer Ramnoruth , Managing Director of Whitefield Business School and the economist Ganessen Chinnapen both acknowledged that the TEC was able to get tough when it was needed. "We encountered several difficulties when it came to open the doors of our institution in Mauritius ," said the Managing Director of Whitefield Business School.
