Dharam Fokeer is no longer CEO of the University of Technology, Mauritius (UTM). After five years in this position, he had to make her apron. His contract ended on Sunday. He bade farewell to some of his close associates Friday and Saturday to the Board at a special meeting.
In reality, the situation is uncertain Dharam Fokeer. Technically, the contract may be renewed. But for now, this has not been done yet. Everything depends, in fact, the Prime Minister. It was he who, as stipulated by the UTM Act 2000, endorses the choice of general manager "on the recommendation of the Minister" guardianship, that is to say, Rajesh Jeetah, Minister of Higher Education. Approached for comment, he had to leave understand that he was not aware of the expiry of the contract Dharam Fokeer.
Questioned too, Dharam Fokeer should simply state: "I am not aware of that." Veeramootoo Menon, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the UTM, has, meanwhile, not wish to answer.
For now, there is no indication that a decision will be taken soon in one way or another. UTM Act indicates that there is no need to go through a call for applications. "When it came to replace Peter Cup as Director General of the UTM, there a few years ago, it took them more than a year. This demonstrates that there is no urgency, "says a member of the Board of Directors.
Former member of MMM, Dharam Fokeer changed gown after the general elections of 2005. In 2008, he was appointed head of the UTM. From the beginning, it will be challenged. His critics argue, indeed, that a doctorate is required for this position, while Dharam Fokeer does not hold. Itself has, however, repeatedly stated that the UTM Act does not require such a degree.
