The CWA officials had a working meeting with the Ministry of Finance on this huge project, said Meghduth Chumroo, the Chairman of the CWA. "With the change of these old pipes we will reduce the Non Revenue Water (NRW)."
Water losses are enormous with damaged pipes. It evokes millions of rupees are lost every year due to water leaks. “With the funds that will benefit the CWA this year, initial work will begin this year. Gradually, as we will be more money to continue the work to be completed in a few years”, said Meghduth Chumroo
One of the big piece of work at early stage will be installing a larger pipe to supply the regions of Camp Fouquereau and Alma. This phase will overcome some Rs 300 million. The existing water line pipe, which is 600 mm, is in terrible conditions and is often damaged.
The new pipe will extend over 10 km and will benefit the new town of Highlands. This project also will start this year and be completed by mid-2012.
Other projects include work in Pierrefonds pipeline at a cost of Rs 30 million, on the southwest coast near Rs 89 million, Quarter-Military in Mount at a cost of Rs 80 million, to Camp Thorel Salazie - Rs 20 million, Rs 25 million Goodlands, Papayas Plain of Rs 20 million, the tank Calebasses Rs 20 million, Ebony Highlands via Reduces the cost of Rs 107 million. Besides that, the renovation of the water treatment plant at straws will cost Rs 80 million and expanding the Nicolière cost of Rs 115 million.
With all these major projects the CWA hopes to ensure a better distribution of water across the country.
