Phoenix Beverages Limited honoured Richarno Colin, the 24-year-old talented boxer who made Mauritius famous during the international competition of Eastern Europe in February 2011.
Phoenix Beverages rewarded him with a sum of Rs 50,000 for his performance.
This event was held in perfect timing with the celebration of independence, a great time to take a look at the successful achievements of our country.
Richard Wooding, CEO of Phoenix Beverages Limited said, “The company believes in the reunifying power of sports that initiates youth of team spirit and strengthens their sense of belonging to our country.”
He added, “Mauritian boxers have every chance of succeeding at the next Olympics. It is one of the disciplines that is experiencing a continuous growth,” said Wooding.
For the last two years Phoenix Beverages has been sponsoring Colin for his training fees. Phoenix is committed to contribute Rs 24,000 annually for three years, to finance and support the young boxer, until the 2012 Olympics to be held in London. Each time Colin wins an international competition, Phoenix Beverages offers him a performance bonus.
According to members of the Amateur Boxing Association of Mauritius, it is the first time that it is receiving such a sponsorship. They added that through this podium fee, Phoenix Bewerages Limited has once again shown its faith in young Mauritian talent and its willingness to support them.
The competition which Colin won was held in Hungary where Richarno Colin defeated the British Bradley Saunders in the category of 64 kg.
