The Mauritian Minister of Cooperatives and Consumer Protection, Michael Sik Yuen, on Tuesday stressed the importance of consumer education.
Speaking at an event organized as part of the celebration of World Consumer Rights, he stated that his department aims to strengthen consumer education, mainly in the financial field.
"The financial services has become a strategic pillar to our economy. The ministry's goal is, above all, educate consumers when it comes to financial transactions such as purchases and sales, among other things, "said Yuen.
He hoped that Mauritians are developing a culture of shopping.
The minister suggested they prepare a monthly budget and plan their spending.
