Each “green” bus, which is made in Japan costs Rs2.6 million and RHT has appealed to the government for financial help. “The company cannot afford such a sum,” affirmed Mr Sanjiv Goburdhun, the Managing Director of RHT, adding that RHT will soon be meeting Minister of Finance Pravind Jugnauth to seek support.
In the past, the company received loans of Rs500,000 for every bus purchased but, says Mr Goburdhun, the most recent Budget did not make any such provision.
The company is also planning to build new headquarters at St Martin. “The building with be environment-friendly and will have photovoltaic panels which generate electricity. Rainwater will also be stocked for use in washing vehicles.”
