Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has responded to the allegations of exporting contaminated petroleum products to Mauritius

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has responded to the allegations of exporting contaminated petroleum products to Mauritius.

In this context the concerned officials have written a letter to the State Trading Corporation (STC) about the misleading statements that have appeared in the press.

“We have seen some press clippings / reports with misleading statements regarding the supply of some quantity of petroleum products to Mauritius which were allegedly contaminated / polluted. We are perturbed to note that certain individuals are making an attempt to attribute such contamination to MRPL without providing any basis for such allegations,” read the letter.

The MRPL further stated that they were perplexed by such baseless allegations as MRPL has till now supplied more than four million tonnes of petroleum products to Mauritius, consistently meeting impeccable quality standards, which are always certified by an internationally independent inspection agency appointed jointly by MRPL and STC.

“The MRPL loaded 14,333 MT of ATF. However, some quantity was received by the vessel in its slop tank and the same tank product was reported to be contaminated,” the letter stated.

It added, “The fact that the remaining ATF in other tanks of the vessel was met the specifications concludes that there was no contamination at the supply source. This issue needs investigation into causes of any contamination in the vessel.”
