The public will be able to file grievances at a Complaints Bureau, which will soon open at Rose Hill.
This was announced by the minister of Social Security Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun on Thursday at an award ceremony for social security officers.
The new Complaints Bureau, which will be managed independently, will be presided over by a committee chaired by the Permanent Secretary Assistant.
“The aim is to punish officers who are not up to the mark and are not delivering. The idea is to also improve services and make it more professional, that is more customer oriented as is expected from the ministry,” she said.
According to Dookun-Luchoomun, the ministry and staff have not yet reached the point where the public thinks that services offered are impeccable.
“Despite the many statements I have made since I have been in this ministry, I continue to receive many calls and letters of dissatisfaction. This is why I have decided to implement this Complaints Bureau,” the minister said.
She added, “Our aim is to ultimately make this a Satisfaction Bureau.”
According to her, social security is a foundation that characterises Mauritius since the island is now a reference point in this field after the International Social Security Association recognised it as having the world’s best social security system.
Dookun-Luchoomun made an appeal to social security officers to be more helpful.
