A new post office and delivery centre at La Flora officially opened on Wednesday. The inauguration ceremony was conducted by minister of Information and Communication Technology Tassarajen Pillay Chedumbrum.
Also present on the occasion were parliamentary private secretary (PPS) Pradeep Peetumber and chief executive officer of the Mauritius Post Ltd (MPL) Giandev Moteea.
Chedumbrum outlined various services that will be offered by the new post office including pensions for senior citizens, banking transactions, payment of electricity bills, internet and photocopy facilities.
The government is presently working on several other projects to develop the area. “We will launch a Wi-Fi centre for youth soon. We also plan to set up a call centre in the region to create more job opportunities,” said Chedumbrum.
The minister also spoke about a project on the setting up of a women empowerment centre.
“We want it to be a polyvalent centre for sports activities,” he said.
