The Leader of the Opposition, Paul Bérenger made it clear that it is not on MMM agenda of entering into an alliance with either PTR (Labour Party) or the Mouvement Socialiste Militant (MSM) now or in the near future. This is what he told at a press conference on Saturday at the Link Hotel, Ebène.
He added that the current government will not go far, stressing that the country needed the skills of MMM, particularly in ministries such as Finance, Tourism and Business and Enterprise, especially with the crisis that is threatening Mauritius. The population is fed up of the current tumult. The alliance PTR / PMSD is the worst government that the country has ever known since independence. The current government is worse than we had in 2010/2011,” he said.
Bérenger criticised Michael Sik Yuen, Jim Seetaram and Mireille Martin. “While there is a crisis, Sik Yuen has been nominated as minister of Tourism and Leisure and Seetaram as minister of Business, Enterpirse and Cooperatives. And not to mention Robert Desvaux and Robert Pallamy have resumed their respective positions at the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority and the Tourism Authority.”
He stated that Seetaram is the youngest ‘transfuge’ (defector having crossed the floor) in history, and that during for first mandate. “It is sad and shameful for the parliament and the Mauritian youth. ” Concerning Martin, she became a ‘transfuge’ barely few days after that she was being harassed by the PTR.
He said that the ministers Seetaram and Martin are “full blooded” defectors. He added, “We would have accepted their choice if they had remained as backbenchers.”
He also commented on the MedPoint case. “It has been eight months since the ICAC has started an investigation and Rajesh Jeetah and Navin Ramgoolam have still not been interrogated.” He also deplored the silence in Infinity case, scandal of 27 acres of Rose-Belle, the contract of Rs 100 million from the Bank of Mauritius.
