They are also thinking of hosting it in Mauritius.
This will be brought about with the amendment of the ICT Act, which will be presented soon. “The overall objective is that the country code top level domain (Dot Mu) should be the obvious choice for all Internet users in Mauritius,” said the minister of Information and Communication Technology Tassarajen Chedumbrun Pillay on Tuesday at Pierrefonds.
The minister was attending the launch of the ‘This is just the Beginning’ campaign to celebrate web design company Neo Network Solutions Ltd’s fifth anniversary.
According to the minister, this Dot MU dossier has been lagging behind. “I hope we are nearing our goal of reclaiming our country domain name to further democratise access to the Internet and its resources,” he said.
He highlighted that Mauritius has the technology but one needs to adjust and have the will to innovate. “People take Mauritius to be a tourist destination. Today it is different. We want to project Mauritius as a safe ICT destination,” said Chedumbrum Pillay.
The founder of Neo Network Solutions Ltd, Rao Ramah said, “Technology is progressing very fast and Mauritius can be at the top. However, it is essential that businesses get an understanding of what is on offer and how the fast changing web will affect their bottom line.” He added, “Our criterion of working makes us stand out. We focus on client’s business strategies and their work processes, and then, map them according to our work model.”
