Higher Education: The UoM Will Offer a Degree in Medicine in 2013

There will be no need for aspiring doctors to do their first year of study abroad. Starting next year, the University of Mauritius offer a degree in medicine for the new students and professionals.

Rajesh Jeetah, Minister of Higher Education, met with delegates from the University of Birmingham in the presence of Vice-Chancellor resigned from the University of Mauritius Konrad Morgan and Dean of the Faculty of Science of that institution Hussein Subratty This Tuesday, January 17.

Initially, fifty students will benefit from these courses from next year. The Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Mauritius said that the courses be held in the existing rooms.

The course is in preparation. According to Hussein Subratty, courses will be provided by teachers from the University of Mauritius. "We have the necessary skills within the institution. And we are working with the Ministry of Health for the practical part of training, " he says.

Minister Jeetah has, meanwhile, said it's a great initiative by the University of Mauritius. He also hailed the presence of Konrad Morgan, he says, is "an academic who has at heart his work."

Rajesh Jeetah added that he plans to work with Konrad Morgan in the interests of the University of Mauritius. "This is the work that matters. We will work forever. We must not be carried away by the controversy, " said Minister of Higher Education.

Joy Hall, head of the Department of Public Health at the University of Birmingham City believes, for its part, the collaboration with the University of Mauritius was made ??in the best conditions. "The project is of great importance for Maurice. The steps have already been switched on and we will start the first classes in 2013, " she said beforehand.

As to the costs of these courses, the University of Mauritius offers no figure yet. "The arrangements are under development," argues Subratty Hussein.
