The purpose of this portal will be to disseminate information related to domestic and international trade. This was approved in cabinet on January 20 and was previously announced in the 2012 budget.
“The implementation of the trade portal is one of the first actions in the new series of World Bank’s Development Policy Loan of $20 million that will be implemented early next year. This initiative will be the first of its kind in eastern and southern Africa,” said ministerial sources.
The portal’s core function will be to provide the business community with relevant information related to trade from a single window that is comprehensive in its scope, is user friendly and easily accessible.
The portal is expected to initially store all information related to existing trade regulations and procedures, including laws.
It will catalogue all international, regional and bilateral trade agreements to which Mauritius is a party.
