The commercial center of Bagatelle is found once again embroiled in a pollution case. This time it's environmental police who found a smelly and polluted water from a drain of the shopping complex is discharged directly into the river Martingale along the back of the Bagatelle Evil of Mauritius.
This is accompanied by the Inspector and Sergeant Fathom Seetaram the environmental police and several officers of his ministry that Virahsawmy Deva has visited the site earlier this afternoon of Saturday, February 18. Visibly annoyed for the finding, the Environment Minister is not pull his punches, threatening the managers of the center of any command to stop all activities of the center if no action is taken within coming days. A situation that the minister describes as unacceptable.
He explained however that no action may be taken as the officers of his Ministry will not present the results of analysis of water collected on site. The samples were, in fact, been entrusted to a private laboratory for analysis on the origin and content of this water that pollutes the river Martingale. Results will be available by next Wednesday, according to the officers of the Ministry of Environment.
As for the shopping center managers, it is the most total surprise. No explanation has been provided to explain the origins of this water from the permanent drainage system of the mall. We must now determine the origin of this water.
Coraline Cortot, marketing manager of the shopping complex, said an internal investigation was opened and that management will cooperate fully with authorities to identify the problem and remedy.
Bagatelle's Mall of Mauritius' has already been involved in a pollution incident late last year. Taken contrary, management had proposed a solution that quickly had the effect to shelve the threat of sanctions.
