Companies who recruit Mauritians to work on cruise ships do not always find in quantity and quality of labor they need. And it is precisely to fill this void that the Freight Academy has implemented a training project for prospective employees of cruise ships. This academy is one of the first companies to launch a training program that addresses many aspects of the global aviation, maritime and customs service.
"The design of this training project results from a study of labor market on cruise ships," said. Brambhanand Jeerakun, rector of the Freight Academy. "This is an area where young people can easily find a job. The purpose of this training program is to develop their potential and employment opportunities on cruise ships. The creation of Freight Academy is the result of a finding that the intermediate responsible for dealing with the Customs Service did not have formal training. Thus Mr. Afzal Delbar, authorized customs broker, had the idea to create this training center located near the bus station of the North ".
Founded in 2006, the Academy has so far trained some 600 people. It was existing employees in companies and students who wanted a career in this sector. The courses cover a wide range of subjects related to the sectors of shipping, aviation, customs, international trade, export and import.
The academy has launched a training program in the health and safety in the maritime environment. The content of this course is consistent with the Code promulgated by the International Maritime Organization regarding the management of hazardous materials in the maritime environment.
"The program developed by our academy allows students and students who enter the market work for the first time to become familiar with the jargon and the specificity of international trade. Our commitment in this area fits perfectly with the objective of our country to make international trade a pillar of our economic development, "said Afzal Delbar, director of the academy.
In the afternoon of Tuesday, February 28th, four eighty academy students will graduate at a ceremony in Ebony.
