Water is central to the debate. For four days, professionals in the field of science and technology from several African countries will gather for a lecture series. The goal is to find solutions to problems of lack of drinking water among others.
This event is organized by the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC) and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Science. The Mauritius Academy of Science and Technology (MAST) is also a partner. Members of the academy Mauritius held a press conference this Wednesday, March 21 at the headquarters of the Mauritius Research Council to Ebony.
Soodursun Jugessur, president of MAST, argues that it is a pride for Mauritius to host this major conference. " We do everything for that science raises more the public interest. Especially since the subject is of national interest for that we are facing problems of water management , "he says, adding that Mauritius is a major consumer of water.
The chairman of the organizing committee of the event, Yusuf Maudarbocus, wanted to emphasize that several topics will be discussed at the meeting between professional science and technology. " We will discuss topics related to water resources management but also through policies to be adopted to better conserve water , "he says.
Michael Atchia, public relations officer of MAST, adds, for its part, the opening ceremony will be attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Service, Rashid Beebeejaun. Moreover, it is a member of the MAST as well as Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam.
