Several players in the tourism industry attended the press conference and the Minister of Tourism and Recreation, Michael Sik Yuen. Minister unveiled the first part of the classification of hotels is an exercise conducted by the Office of Tourism under the aegis of the President of the MTPA, Robert Desvaux.

The methodology used now is to improve the quality of infrastructure and service offered to customers in hotels for a more sustainable tourism industry.
Facing the press, the President of the MTPA, Robert Desvaux has emphasized throughout the world, "the methods used are largely based on objective criteria to determine the star ratings. The approach of the MTPA is a unification of universal criteria, objectives, recognized and adapted by the European system and takes into account an average of appreciation tour operators selling hotels. In addition, new objective criteria that take into account the realities of Mauritius, were formulated and introduced by the MTPA. All this within a well defined a Code of Conduct for hoteliers. " This approach has the merit of satisfying the needs and expectations of the customer and generate a large degree of adherence and acceptability of the hotel.
In contrast, customers, tour operators and the public will have the opportunity to inform the MTPA, through its website, of any difference between the category in which the hotel is classified according to the criteria used and the level of service, and suggest other criteria they deem important to improve the product Mauritian hotel.
This information will be submitted to the Board of Directors of the MTPA for possible improvements and may also be used in the process of classification, upgrade or downgrade.
The list of classification of hotels in the Mauritius is however already posted on the website of the MTPA.

Code of Conduct:
1. Inform all visitors equally: On the content of the website of the hotel and brochure, equipment and all services offered by each hotel.
2. To ensure that the facilities and services are appropriate to the category creation and that promises are kept.
3. Clearly define what is included in the prices quoted, including service charges. Details on service charges and additional facilities should also be clear.
4. Ensure a high level of courtesy, hospitality, hygiene and cleanliness.
5. To deal promptly and courteously all inquiries, reservations, correspondence and complaints from visitors.
6. To ensure as far as possible the safety of customers and their belongings.
7. To comply with the Code of Ethics for Tourism Mauritius
8. Comply with the Maurice Ile Durable concept which includes the following five areas:
9. Have in place a Food Safety Management recognized.
10. Have a system of quality management recognized.
