Quatre Bornes To Get Fibre Optic Link This May

The Fibre to the Home (FTTH) project is gathering momentum and the service is expected to be available to the customers in May.

Installation works of the fibre optic cables have already started in Quatre Bornes and other regions should also be connected very soon.

The FTTH technology which is being provided by Bharat Telecom Ltd will bring a revolution in the telecommunications sector with its high internet speed and other value added services at affordable prices.

Contacted by phone, the chief operating officer of Bharat Telecom, Anil Gujjalu said that “the satellites have already been installed and about 90 per cent on the technical side have been completed so far.”

He added that they are now focusing on the deployment plan. “Two teams have been formed to work on the cable installation which is being undertaken in different parts of Quatre Bornes namely at Sodnac. We will extend the fibre connections to other areas soon,” explained Gujjalu.

The service has already been tested in two locations; University of Mauritius and Charles Telfair Institute. “It has been implemented on a temporary basis. The results have been very positive,” he stated.

The basic start-up package involves an Internet connectivity of two mbps and some 40 IPTV channels at a monthly subscription of around Rs 280. But, tariffs have not yet been approved by the regulatory authority.
