Real cold shower for members of the Association Mauritian Composer Author (AACM). Those who felt they had the full attention of the Minister of Arts and Culture, Mookeshwar Choonee, eventually disillusioned, having considered the amendments to be made to the Copyrights Act of 1997.
"It is with great disappointment that we found that none of our proposals were accepted by the Minister of Arts and Culture, regarding amendment of Copyrights Act", explains Zanzak Arjoon, the president of the 'AACM.
A series of recommendations had been made ??to the Minister by members of this association. Besides the artists had had several meetings with Mookeshwar Choonee, and had even expressed their satisfaction.
These sets of recommendations, were in pole position introducing a "levy" on electronic media such as CD, Bluetooth devices or MP3 players. Products that they think, often used by the public to access music files for free. "A levy on these devices to benefit the arts community," explains Zanzak Arjoon.
One of the other proposals include: allowing the Mauritius Society of Authors (MASA) to provide legal assistance to artists hacked. Members of the AACM also demanded that the society of authors get into law so they can call the Internet Service Providers engaged in such illegal downloading.
Having suffered this disappointment, no doubt that the AACM account to share their anger at the event they have held on June 23 at Rose Hill.
