According to Bhaskar Desai, treasurer of the Mauritius Astronomical Society, this phenomenon will be observed from LUX Hotel in Grand Gaube at 6 am on June 6.
However, the public will not be given access. The observation will only be open for the members of the Mauritius Astronomical Society and those staying at the hotel. Members of the association must send their names and plate number to have access to the hotel not later than June 4.
On June 6, the sun will rise at 6.40 am. It will rise with the maximum transit leaving only two hours for the end of the transit. Only the third and fourth contact respectively at 8.32 am and 8.49 am will be visible in Mauritius if the weather is not so cloudy.
This exceedingly rare astronomical event last occurred on June 8, 2004 and will not happen again until December 11, 2117, but it will not be visible in Mauritius. The next time Mauritius will witness the entire event will be June 10, 2498.
