Spatial Planning: Redefinition of the Coast Map

According to figures from the Department of Housing and Lands, 39 acres and 16 perches of land newly classified additional public beaches.

According to the reconciliations performed by Le Matinal, the last track which is no longer classified as a public beach is that of La Cuvette. Some of the land was in fact leased to Lease to Lei & Co Ltd to build a restaurant and private club. Other beaches that are not classified in its own right in the category of public beaches are St. Felix, Coteau Raffin, Pointe-aux-Peppers, Le Morne, Pointe-aux-gunners and Trou aux Biches.

Some public beaches was also taken up by the Ministry of Social Security, National Solidarity and Reform Institutions for the construction of a recreation center for the elderly. 

At Saint-Félix, part of the beach been leased to Spa on the Shores Limited for a hotel project. Nine acres and 91 perches was leased in 2007 to Tatorio Holdings Limited for land use planning. In Pointe-aux-Fruits, more than one acre of land was leased to Oberoi Balaclava Limited for construction. 

Lands for the construction of the Marine Park Centre 

Part of the land was taken by the Ministry of Agro-Industry and food security for the construction of a Marine Park Centre. 

At Morne, that's another part of the beach which was taken over by the Prime Minister's office for the construction of a Coastal Surveillance Radar System (CSRS) . 

Trou aux Biches, a part of the public beach was leased to a man named Suryadeo Sungkur.

Parts of the aforementioned areas above no longer fall under the responsibility of the Beach Authority (BA), responsible for managing public beaches. 

To date, there are approximately sixty public beaches. Fifteen are in Pamplemousses, fifteen to Riviere du Rampart, one in Port Louis (Black Sand), seventeen in Flacq, nineteen in Black River, Savanna and nine to fourteen in Grand Port.
