Speaking to The Independent, MFA vice-president Sooriah Darshan Madhow stated that he was the one who asked committee members to bring forth the records for an investigation. He added that there have been some inconsistencies in past transactions which prompted the necessity for an inquiry to shed light on the matter.
“It is to deal with the discrepancies that the members were forced to lodge a complaint at the CCID.”
He highlighted that the contract papers that were allocated to contractors were without tenders and payments exceeding the budget were made in cash without consulting the committee.
MFA president Vinod Persunnoo is waiting for the results of the police inquiry to comment on the matter.
The forensic report initiated by Roshi Badhain in September 2011 led to one-sided decisions by certain MFA committee members in the Goal Projects II and III. According to the report, there was no transparency in certain transactions that were carried out.
In 2006, a sub-committee that was set up to manage the USD 400,000 funded by FIFA never reported about the work-in-progress details.
The Goal Projects were approved by the Goal Bureau and FIFA to ensure constructions of football infrastructures.
