Like the consultancy Gibb Mauritius Ltd (GML), which recently opened an office in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is operated by the natives of this country, whose general manager and two engineers, until it is expanding in light of the development of its activities.
"Sri Lanka is undergoing reconstruction after the civil war that ravaged. They are building dams, hotels and port and airport infrastructure. This gives us opportunities, "said Kishan Padaruth, Managing Director of GML. He believes that "in three years, our operations in Sri Lanka should be much higher than in Mauritius."
GML, he says, has changed considerably in recent years. "The Mauritian market is too small. We employ 100 people, including 40 engineers and 40 technicians. We have no choice but to turn to overseas for work, "says Kishan Padaruth.
Seychelles, GML employs ten engineers and technicians, all Seychellois. Among the contracts that the firm has recently taken down: the expansion of a dam financed by the African Development Bank and the Seychelles 2020 Development (which includes the installation of infrastructure on both islands) and the development of a front sea Victoria. GML also has to his credit, the contract for the construction of a Sewerage Treatment Plant, which will serve five Housing Estates in this archipelago.
BDO is another Mauritian firm has distinguished itself in the region. He opened offices in six countries, including Kenya and Tanzania. And plans to open three more in early 2013, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
"We are continuing our expansion strategy in the region in audit services, consulting services, finance companies and outsourcing," said Yacoob Ramtoolah, Chief Executive Officer of BDO. And to affirm that "there is an increasing demand for skills in the region of Mauritius."
A Sanjay Mungur, Managing Director of EMS Consulting, adding that with the stagnation of trade and economic activities in Mauritius, "it becomes even more important to export our expertise in Africa." He says that two thirds of BDO operations "are on Africa. We work primarily with partners in these countries. "
