The project will occupy 4,000 square feet of the Mauritius Telecom building in Ebène and will be equipped with the latest technologies.
Vice prime minister and minister of Finance and Economic Development, Xavier Duval pointed out that to begin, space will be made available to some 25 starters, especially in the field of Information Technology (IT), banking, marketing, and accountancy.
The rent for the start-ups will be free of charge for a period of time.
“We also want to provide a mentoring service, not only by civil servants but also officers of the MT and other enterprises,” he announced.
Duval added, “We will select these 25 start-ups purely on merit basis. At the end of the year, we want to have 25 professional Mauritian companies in the IT industry contributing to the economic development of the country.”
A selection panel will be set up to choose the most appropriates candidates.
The finance minister further stated that, “Young people have great potential and I am sure this project will provide many new opportunities to them, not only because they will have access to the latest technological facilities but it will also be similar to an enclosed forum where they can share views and expertise and solve problems together.”
