Graduate: These Obstacles Force the Dropout
More young Mauritians go to study abroad. In 2011/2012, the total stood at 10.063, 10% of the student population. With globalization and the Internet helps the student is confronted with a wide range of universities in many countries.

And it is true that studying abroad has many advantages such as learning or improving a foreign language, discover another culture, openness to change this world and a better understanding of globalization and its challenges. And obtaining a degree from a foreign university brings more to the CV. However, studies abroad require real effort on themselves and should be considered his expatriation as a challenge because many unexpected obstacles stand in front of the student. Some are successful, others experiencing disappointments that cause them to drop out along the way and return to the country devastated. We collected the testimony of two girls who were forced to terminate their studies abroad but however did not give up studying.
Financial worries Rita
Rita, now aged 23, was to China to study medicine (MBBS). But she found herself forced, for financial reasons, to return home before the end of his studies. "I almost sink into depression when I returned. I am unemployed and without a diploma, and I have no experience. I studied for three and a half years of medical school, which lasts for six years , I only had two and a half years to complete, including one year of internship. This was a very bad experience for me, and everything had already started badly. Three months after my departure, I learned of the death of my father. It was a painful period and only as my mother was supporting the family and my brother is still in school, it became increasingly difficult for me to finance my studies. It is said that compared to other countries Europe, the cost of living is cheaper in China. This is not my opinion. Yonder, additional costs such as photocopies, books, etc.., and materials for practice are expensive. I therefore returned to Mauritius in June 2012, and since I'm unemployed. "
Never give up
Rita does not give up, however. She is currently underway ACCA level 1, she said, "for lack of nothing." She appealed to the concerned authorities and the Ministry of Education, she is still waiting for a response. "In the beginning it was very hard, if not traumatic, because apart from medicine, I did not do anything. But sometimes there are circumstances in life that require us to completely change direction and if it is not confident in the future, we can not move forward. So I try to be positive, do not give up, "she said.
Meanwhile, the young woman seeking employment in the field of administration, which, she says, will save while making its contribution to the house. She is hopeful about the possibility of finishing what she started.
When the language barrier becomes
For Nadia, aged 20, his biggest challenge when arriving for graduate studies in communication in Malaysia was the communication problem. Language becomes a barrier, Nadia had a bad adaptation. It is part of Malaysia in September 2011 and returned in late October, a month after. "I had a big problem since communication in the village where I was, people spoke only Malay. And as the university where I was located far from the capital, I had no with whom I could really communicate. Mauritian students were eight of us in the apartment where I was. But they were not, did not show very cooperative. fend me and I had absolutely alone in a country I did not know and where people and I did not speak the same language, "she says before adding:" I missed my orientation day at college, so I was completely disoriented. I even landed in a room full of students in master. Shame! Anyway, I feel that the curse was bent against me. "
Like many students, faires his studies abroad was a dream for Nadia. "I always wanted to study abroad. My two cousins were parties in Malaysia and I had touted the merits of this country and the university where they were (not the same as mine). I left attempt., but they had a much better experience than me, and I do not expect any of such horrors, "she said.
Not fitting, Nadia returned to continue his studies at the University of Mauritius, where it is a BA in English.
Marriage and pregnancy, or the obligation to take a job are other factors that lead students to abandon their studies. But everything is a matter of organization. To avoid these errors of course we must learn about the university that has chosen and the country in which you reside. Here are some tips to help you overcome obstacles:
Attend classes. Those who discover the world of higher education are indeed facing a lot of freedom and no obligation to attend classes amphitheater. And if we said at the beginning that we catch up "later" when come partials is panic.
Investment staff. It takes, and many more. If you do not measure very well the expectations of teachers, do not hesitate to ask them at the end of the course.
Work with others.'s Work group has itself a real help. To find the binomial or trinomial effective studying, make use and abuse of the library. Take advantage of group work to create links. Once created contacts, social networks are a number of students that wear then to each other.
Organize time: A key to success. Must juggle school hours, sports, any small job and want to go for a drink with friends. Without losing sight of the goal: a successful year in providing the necessary work. Better to sort, and well before its quiet agenda, distribute all a personal schedule. Ensuring the plan year, and not just the twelve weeks of a semester.
Ask for help. We have the right to be a student in temporary difficulty. This is the time to turn to tutors, students and / or teachers appointed in each college or counselors.

What to do while waiting for the resumption of studies?
1. Prepare a resume studies. Abandonment during the year is often linked to a mistake. We realize that studies that follows we are not interested or do not match our expectations. Most studies and training starting in September, leaving a bit of time to correct the mistake and change course.
2. Find a training year. Although most courses start in September, it is possible to start some training at other times.
3. Engage in a volunteer project to recoup his time during the months before a resumption of school in September. Invest in a project as a volunteer is a way to make himself useful to the community, take the time to consider his future and live a meaningful and rewarding experience.
4. Work or do a "small job". Looking for a job until the next academic year is often an opportunity that interests young people in this situation. This allows to gain some experience on the labor market and earn an income.
