The purpose of this project is to increase the storage capacity of the fuel used for power generation, 70 days. Currently, the storage capacity is about one month. In the direction of CEB, increasing the storage capacity of heavy oil power plants to serve Fort Victoria and St. Louis is necessary in order to meet the growing demand for electricity and to ensure that there is no out of stock in case of tankers would delay for various reasons.
The CEB many projects to ensure the production
The Central Electricity Board (CEB) proposes to install five tanks heavy oil Grandes Les Salines. With the construction of the five reservoirs, the storage capacity of heavy oil and CEB will increase to 50,000 cubic meters. To date, the CEB has two heavy oil reservoirs in Fort William and Fort Victoria. Once the five new operational tanks Grandes Les Salines, heavy oil will be pumped to Les Salines to replenish the stock fuel Fort William and Fort Victoria. To achieve this, a pipe 400 mm diameter will be constructed parallel to the existing one. The old fuel line 200 meters in diameter will be decommissioned in the future.
With the construction of five reservoirs, CEB will be able to increase the production capacity of electricity from the power plant in St. Louis from 30 to 40MW. To serve two thermal power plants, the CEB plans to heat the heavy oil of the five tanks at 54 ° before pumping power plants to serve Fort Victoria and St. Louis. A water tank of 1,000 cubic meters will be constructed in Grandes Les Salines. The entire project will be completed by 2016. The site chosen for the construction of these tanks is 16 200 square meters. The land will be leased from the Department of Housing. No home is currently on the site.
The demand for electricity is steadily rising. It increased from 98 GWh in 1968 to 2,400 GWh in 2013 to 333,000 subscribers. The CEB relies primarily on thermal power plants using heavy oil to produce electricity. It also purchases electricity with Independent Power Producers (IPP). Now the CEB has four thermal power plants are Fort George, Fort Victoria, St. Louis and Nicolay. It also operates ten hydroelectric stations in Champagne, Ferney, Tamarind Falls, Le Val, Réduit, Cascade Cécile, Magenta, La Ferme, La Nicolière and Midlands.
